Donation Class - Vinyasa Flow

This class is taught by:

Joan Chanpong

Joan Chanpong was first introduced to yoga in 2002. After finding that movement and breath awareness helped calm her mind and body, Joan felt the need to share her knowledge, so that others might also reap the benefits of yoga. After receiving her teacher certification from Corepower Yoga, Joan set out with the goal of helping make yoga accessible to students of all levels. She has attended numerous workshops and seminars with influential yoga teachers such as Natasha Rizopoulos, Janet Stone, Seane Corn, John Friend, Kenny Graham and Samantha Shakti Brown. Joan’s willingness to incorporate ideas from a variety of yoga styles and diversify her knowledge and practice helps keep her classes fresh and dynamic. Those who attend Joan’s classes can expect a focus on proper alignment, posture, and the awareness of how one’s breath deeply affects the body and mind. Her classes are at once playful, informative, and introspective, as she draws from the experiences from all her teachers, both on and off the mat.

Phoenix Bick-Maurischat

Formerly a competitive dancer, Phoenix discovered yoga as a path to recovery from her dance injuries, and has found through her practice, both a joy of movement and a stress reliever. Phoenix completed her 200-Hour Hatha-Vinyasa teacher training with Noell Clark and Angie Poon. She is Yoga-Alliance certified and has had the privilege of teaching in a variety of settings including local community events, schools, and several yoga studios around the Bay Area. Phoenix leads a dynamic upbeat class with the flexibility to adjust pacing and poses to meet her students’ varying skill levels. As an avid music lover, Phoenix also enjoys sharing funky, customized playlists in her classes.

Patti Massey

In 2003 Patti discovered yoga after years of feeling the impacts of aerobics, running and spin classes, and sitting on the job. From the first days, yoga became a path that lead Patti to finding new energy, more joy, compassion for herself and others, and more community and connectedness of body and spirit. Patti makes yoga accessible to all and invites students to find a personal and joyful connection with yoga and the community. In her energetic, alignment focused classes she encourages and supports each student to move beyond messages of limitations to experience their present day personal edge. From the energetic vinyasa and playful partner asana to the quiet practices of yin and restorative, Patti’s yoga classes support her students’ growth in personal yoga practice, sports, and contemplative practices that open both the mind and body. Patti’s students say they leave her classes more refreshed and energized and feeling more capable and unjudged. Patti Massey is a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 teacher with a focus in hatha vinyasa. In addition she is certified in Yin and Restorative Yoga and is currently pursuing her Joy of Yoga RYT-500 certification.

Michael Athanas

Michael, an E-RYT certified yoga instructor, has immersed himself in many styles of yoga since 2002 including Ashtanga, Bikram, and Baptiste. With a Ph.D. in Physics, Michael spent nearly a decade exploring the fundamental structure of matter at particle accelerator laboratories around the world. He finds yoga (philosophy & asana) to be the perfect complement to his stringent scientific profession – both work in tandem to increase energy and awareness. The challenging flow of Michael's classes will leave you feeling strong and centered - his approach to teaching will develop confidence, flexibility and strength.

Valeria Lugo

For Valeria Lugo, yoga has been a deep-seated and essential part of her life. Her first yogi guru was her mom, who introduced her to the spiritual practice by incorporating yoga’s fundamentals of mindfulness, inward-focus, gratitude, and breath into her and her younger brother’s upbringing. Val’s love for the physical practice started as playful curiosity as a kid, and by high school had evolved into a dedicated passion. She regularly draws inspiration from the lighthearted, free-spirited nature of her childhood practice, and has learned to balance this side of herself with staying focused, connected, grounded, and strong. This balance is her constant guide, whether she is practicing yoga, surfing, sailing, hiking with her dog, or crunching for a grad school exam. Her goal is to pass the bliss that comes from such open-minded balance to her students, to feel inspired both on and off the mat. Valeria has a B.S. in Psychology, a B.A. in Francophone studies, and is working towards her M.S. in Human Factors Engineering. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and has lived in Florida, Spain, Switzerland, and now calls Northern California home. She completed her 200-hour Vinyasa training with Noell Clark in San Jose, and continues to cultivate her anatomical knowledge and spiritual awareness every day

Valeri Pighini

Valeri Pighini, Certified Yoga Teacher, has been a yoga student for 19 years and found that it has helped her cope on life's roller coaster ride by learning to focus and take personal time just for her to heal from the inside out. She is a successful retired technical editor from a lifetime working at Lockheed Martin and living in the hectic world of the Bay Area. She currently lives in San Jose and has found that she loves to teach the principles of making yoga a personal practice for Silicon Valley's other tired and busy, unique and varied individuals. All levels will benefit from a calm place to leave the intrusive work life behind and understand the quietness and tranquility of yoga as a beautiful practice of wholeness.

Alyssa Lugtu

Alyssa discovered her passion for yoga early in 2011. She committed herself to the practice, while searching for a way to bring greater strength and happiness into her life. Through her active lifestyle, she found yoga to allow her to connect the mind and body. She wishes to share the same joy she has found with others. Her teaching is inspired by a variety of styles she has studied including hatha, ashtanga, kundalini, and yin. Since her training, she has deepened her practice and expanded her knowledge as a teacher. Alyssa completed a 200 hour teacher training with Noell Clark, and is a certified RYT with the Yoga Alliance. Her mission is to inspire individuals within the community to breathe deeply and live with soulful and loving intention through the teachings of yoga. Her fun and upbeat nurturing classes are great for all!
