Owner of Downtown Yoga Shala, Veronica took a leap of faith when she left a successful Silicon Valley high-tech career in 2008 to pursue a higher calling. Living in Kathmandu, Nepal in her youth opened her mind and heart to yoga philosophy and eastern spirituality. Years later she pursued yoga again, as a complement to her marathon and triathlon training, which intensified her love for the practice of yoga in all its dimensions - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. Veronica is a certified yoga instructor, having completed Teacher Certifications in Ashtanga Vinyasa from Larry Shultz, Power Vinyasa from Baron Baptiste and Ashtanga Teacher Certifications from Tim Miller and David Swensen. As an Ashtanga practitioner, she has gratefully studied over the years with many certified teachers in the Ashtanga lineage while also continuing to study with Sharath Jois in Mysore, India when possible. She continually draws inspiration from the deep tradition of yoga, and derives profound personal growth in being a lifelong, humble student and dedicated practitioner on and off the mat. A local San Jose resident for many years, Veronica aspires to create a welcoming environment that will bring the many benefits of yoga to the corporate high-tech and multi-sport athletic communities of Silicon Valley. Veronica infuses her classes with warmth and sincerity, kindness and compassion. She gently encourages a mindful practice through deeper breath body awareness, while honoring the inner teacher that resides within each of us.

Mysore Style Practice
is the heart of Ashtanga Yoga, and is the name coined for the original way it has always been taught in the city of Mysore, South India, in the tradition of the lineage from Sri K. Patthabi Jois.
This class is for students of all levels
and is an excellent opportunity to develop a personal, independent practice that can slowly build over a lifetime!
Within a group setting, each student learns the Ashtanga Primary Series at their own pace, with direct and individual assistance from the teacher. This allows students to progress at an appropriate rate for their own body and life circumstances. New postures are taught on an individual basis as the student develops the requisite strength, flexibility and stamina to proceed further. This direct student - teacher relationship is foundation of all traditional Yoga teaching and the Yoga Paramparā (the lineage of transmission from teacher to student).

Once you start taking a Mysore class, be prepared to commit to attending at least three times per week for your first few months of practice to understand this method more fully and get the most benefit out of this practice. FULL PRIMARY SERIES - $20 Drop-In or Mysore Pass
This is a traditional Led Primary Series class with Vinyasa count. This class is ideal for anyone with an existing Mysore practice, or familiar with the Primary Series sequence. Not recommended for beginners, or those without background in Ashtanga yoga.
If you are not familiar with the Primary Series, please attend Intro to Ashtanga or Led Modified Ashtanga Primary classes or Mysore Ashtanga classes prior to taking this class.
Intro to Mysore-Style Ashtanga Yoga

Curious about the Ashtanga method and what goes on in the early mornings in our Mysore Room? Have you been wanting to try it, but unsure of what to do, and how to start? Mysore-style is considered by many to be the most effective and gratifying ways to learn and develop one’s personal yoga practice and sustain it over the long term.
Join us for this workshop, designed to give you an orientation and introduce you to the method of Mysore style Ashtanga yoga. You will be introduced to the poses and sequence of Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga gradually and guided steadily over time, to enable you to progress at the appropriate pace and understand how to make it a part of your regular daily practice.
WORKSHOP FEE INCLUDES 1 MONTH OF DAILY MYSORE PRACTICE to help ease yourself into the practice and directly experience its benefits first-hand. At least 2-3x/week Mysore classes recommended.
After this workshop, you will know the basic etiquette and guidelines for practicing at any Mysore class anywhere it is offered, regardless of your level of experience.
