Yoga is an inward journey. It is personal, and it is for everyone, without exception. Each of us who choose to practice yoga are on a unique path within our unique bodies. Downtown Yoga Shala honors them all. We encourage each other as we pursue our yoga paths together.

Yoga is for everyone, of all ages and abilities. At Downtown Yoga Shala, we are a supportive, non-competitive environment that encourages a safe and inspired practice for all who come to class. For those new to yoga, please come with an open mind and heart, and be patient with yourself and the process. The joys of yoga will soon be revealed to you in unexpected ways as its benefits spill into your daily lives. You are embarking on a journey with yourself, creating a mindfulness about your own body and how magnificent it is to breathe life in and promote health and healing in ways you may not have known before. For those already practicing yoga, explore and be creative in your self-expression, listening mindfully to your body and its needs.

Our Studio

 

Our 3,800-square-foot facility has a spacious yoga room, a second studio for smaller classes, comfortable changing rooms. We are conscious of our environment and try do our part to contribute to our planet’s sustainability, whether it be with renewable materials such as bamboo flooring, availability of natural lighting, organic and earth-friendly products, and use of non-toxic cleaning supplies. Every little bit helps.

 

Our Community

 

We are a community of friends and family, neighbors and acquaintances who come together to celebrate joy in the present moment, in a warm atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement, kindness and compassion towards oneself and others.

 

We realize we are a part of a greater extended community. We are committed to supporting local non-profit and charity organizations through some of our donation-based special events. We also offer an affordable, accessible Community classes 3x/week.

 

Downtown Yoga Shala is the official provider of yoga services at Sports Basement in Sunnyvale, CA. Our teachers teach a free yoga class every Sunday, 11:30am-12:45pm in the Sunnyvale location, and every 1st and 3rd Sunday, 10:30-11:45am at the Campbell location. Please contact Sports Basement to RSVP for these classes. DYS students get 10% off any merchandise at the store.

 

Our Instructors

 

Our teachers are dedicated, experienced yoga practitioners who enjoy sharing their love of yoga, and guiding you along in your yoga journey. They are certified by training programs registered with the Yoga Alliance, going well beyond the 200-hour requirement with additional courses to deepen their knowledge and refine their specialized teaching skills (e.g. for kids, family, pre-natal, Ashtanga, Pilates, Therapeutics, Yoga Tune-Up etc). They are CPR-certified. They practice what they preach. They practice often and you are likely to find them with you in class. Please click here to find out more about us.

 

Energy Exchange Program

 

Come work for DYS in exchange for yoga!  This is a program meant to bring benefits both to you and the studio. When you exchange energy with the studio, you are performing tasks which are vital to its daily operations. It requires commitment, a strong work ethic, punctuality and reliability, a positive attitude and customer service skills.  We have morning and afternoon/evening shifts available that involve administrative tasks, light housekeeping, miscellaneous tasks.  If you completed at least a month of consistent practice at DYS, enjoy the studio and our community, appreciate the many benefits of yoga in your life, and feel that you will be good fit for this program, please email us at info@downtownyogashala.com.
