About Us
“Shala” … Sanskrit word for a sacred space, a place of learning and knowledge. Downtown Yoga Shala is an inspiring space that honors you, and supports you in your yoga journey! Yoga is an inward journey. It is personal, and it is for everyone, without exception. Each of us who choose to practice yoga are on a unique path within our unique bodies. Downtown Yoga Shala honors them all. We encourage each other as we pursue our yoga paths together.
In this space you will find balance and harmony, peace and serenity, kindness and love. Discover your own inner teacher and shine from the light within you. Awaken and renew your strength, flexibility and balance, then experience how yoga can transform more than just your body. Yoga can be a transformational experience in the mental, emotional, spiritual realms as well. We invite you to a unique experience of awareness and joy in uniting your body, mind and spirit through yoga.
Our Studio
Our 3800 sq ft facility has a spacious yoga room, comfortable changing rooms and a shower area. We are conscious of our environment and try do our part to contribute to our planet’s sustainability, whether it be with renewable materials such as bamboo flooring, availability of natural lighting, selling organic and earth-friendly products, and using non-toxic cleaning supplies. Every little bit helps.
Our Community
We are a community of friends and family, neighbors and acquaintances who come together to celebrate joy in the present moment, in a warm atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement, kindness and compassion towards oneself and others.
We realize we are a part of a greater extended community. We are committed to supporting local non-profit and charity organizations through some of our donation-based classes. Our Wednesday 5:30pm class with Bob Riccomini supports the Art of Yoga Project, caring for at-risk youth. For the month of March and April, we are also happy to donate 100% of the proceeds of our Sunday 9am Community Yoga class led by Prajna Vieira, to a local charity, Sandra J Wing Healing Therapies Foundation which provides financial assistance to cancer patients during their chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment so they can experience the benefit of healing therapies which are not covered by insurance.
Our Teachers
Our teachers are dedicated yoga practitioners who enjoy sharing their love of yoga, and guiding you along in your yoga journey. They are certified by training programs registered with the Yoga Alliance, and many have gone well beyond the initial 200-hour requirement with additional courses to deepen their knowledge and refine their specialized teaching skills (e.g. for kids, family, pre-natal, Yoga Meets Dance, Therapeutics, etc). They are CPR-certified. They practice what they preach. In fact, they practice so regularly, that you are likely to find them practicing next to you in class.
